Do-It-Yourself Turbofan Goggles

Fogging is an ongoing issue with airsoft/paintball goggles. I developed my own defog spray to combat it. But I have found that liquid defog is unusable in sub-zero conditions when my defog spray has actually frozen onto my goggles when spraying it.

ESS Turbofans are great but their +$100 price tag makes them a bit too expensive for me.

JT makes an add-on Vortex fan that fits many of their goggles for about $20-30

But for those looking for an even cheaper alternative and want to get your MacGyver on, you can build your own for about $10-$15 in parts.

You want a fan no wider than 25mm so it will fit on top of many JT paintball goggles. I installed them in serial, connected to a 9V battery so that I could lower the effective voltage to 4.5v. A single fan works but produces much more noise when connected to a 9V battery. I attached the fans to the goggles through the vent holes with wire. It took me about 20-30 minutes, a little solder, electrical tape, and patience.
