Lower Face Protection: Keeping the teeth

Post by Shogun Mitsu »

I'll start by saying that missing or broken teeth is quite unattractive & there is a real possibility of this happening in the sport of airsoft. So lets discuss options on how to "Keep the teeth" so to speak.

I myself use quite a few different types of face protection, ranging from Kabuki type masks to a simple Shemagh. My favorite you ask? All of them of course! I noticed that different game types & environments call for different types of protection. Some masks protect more of your face, but limit what type of eye protection you use, while others offer less facial coverage but work well with any eye protection. One example of this is the BrassGuard Bat type mask. http://brassguardequip.com/bat-mask.html

This mask, has an ultra cool look to it while providing full protection to the lower face & ears. I have taken quite a few blasts to the face with this mask in cqb environment's, & I still have ALL of my teeth! :D The mask has suffered a bb or two getting impaled in the metal mesh, but thankfully none have ever pushed through completely. A simple eye glass screw driver works best to close the spreading of the mesh & then your back in business. Now for the down side of this mask type. Does NOT work well with full seal type goggles! The way this mask is designed, makes it protrude from the face quite a bit to the point that your goggles are not positioned properly on the face. They do work great with proper shooting glasses though, so I would recommend this mask simply for the amount of protection to the face & ears (BB's in the ear... Not cool).

On the other hand, another type of mask that DOES work well with a wide range of eye protection is the Hakkotsu half face mask. http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/combat-gears ... earth.html
This mask is not made for all people though. It seems to be molded after an individual with a smaller face than most people I know, But it does work well for my wife. Her only complaint is that the mask presses on the bridge of her nose too hard. Easy fix with a small section of neoprene or foam hot glued to the inside & VOILA'! I personally do not like it for the simple reason of the low airflow I get, because the mask presses so tight to my face. But, It may work for you & best of all the price is right!

Below you will find links to different face protection I believe to offer the best protection & price. It all boils down to personal preference & budget, but keep in mind that a mask costs way less than a dental implant!
