Guide: Green Gas, Red Gas and Propane
by Moondog
Green/red gas is propane. The only difference is that green/red gas also includes silicone oil mixed in with the compressed liquid gas and it's pressure. The only difference between Green and Red gas is the pressure in the bottle. Red gas has a higer PSI than green and thus gives you higher FPS when firing. Here's proof done using a gas chromatograph:

Some people have heard rumors that it can damage guns. This is because they forget to add a drop of silicone lube to their propane tank adaptors, which helps keep your o-rings from drying up. And if your o-rings dry up they can develope cracks and you get leaks.

Propane adaptors allow you to use camping/cooking propane tanks made for camping propane stoves (ie. Colman tanks sold at Walmart, Kmart, etc.). Silicone oil must be added to the adaptor before use to keep your gas weapon well lubricated internally.
Propane tanks are a cheaper than green gas, though bulkier and using propane smells compared to Green Gas. Sulfur smell is added to propane and natural gas as a safety feature so that you know if the tank is leaking.

Green gas is the same no matter what the brand. There's no performance difference. The only difference is how the bottle is shaped and if the loading nozzle is a screw on or built in.

Re: Guide: Green Gas, Red Gas and Propane
My team prefers to use propane. It is readily available at any hardware store, and all you really have to do to make it "Green Gas" is add silicone oil. Plus you get more bang for your buck. A 16oz propane is about $4, if you were to get green gas in the same size it could probably run you $15+ dollars. That's more money in my teams pocket to spend on other things.
